LEAFY SEA DRAGON

I fell in love with this amazing creature as soon as I saw photos of it. You can imagine how perfectly it blends into its surroundings when floating gently among seaweeds. All those leaf-like appendages are only for camouflage, not locomotion. It is related to the seahorse, of course, and shares many characteristics with its better-known cousin. Leafy sea dragons are found only in the waters around southwestern Australia. I was thrilled to finally see one in person at the California Academy of Sciences soon after this painting was completed.Available in a limited edition of 125. Certificate of authenticity included.
