Inspired by the artistic traditions of her native Slovakia,
the acrylic and ink paintings of Adka (“Andrea Jones”) are
presented in a whimsical, folk-art style, highlighted by bold
colors, unique forms and a close attention to line.
Imaginary characters dominate her canvases, displaying all the
patterns and variations that nature has to offer.
The one-of-a-kind,lively compositions that result are infused with a simple
message, highlighting the ability of the human spirit to
overcome even the most difficult of obstacles with happiness
and grace.
Perhaps Adka’s most defining hallmark is her use of
color, which is applied in two distinct ways. Background hues
seem to dance along the page, infused with both light and
movement, while foreground colors are bold, contained within
clearly defined forms. Compositions are balanced, and a
pervading sense of harmony infuses each piece. The result is
paintings brimming with vivid life, ornamental flourishes, folk
themes and detailed imagery that convey a delightful energy of
laughter and pure joy.
